This letter is paid content. I am writing this letter of support for Brian Davis as a school board member in District 200. I have been honored to know Brian for the past 13 years and served with him on the Hastings Basketball Booster Board for 8 years.
As a candidate for the school board, Brian brings with him a strong background in education and business. He is the current Senior Sports Director for the YMCA in Hastings and before that worked in the business world with an MBA in finance. I’ve watched first hand as Brian took a slow starting youth program at the YMCA and made it into the place to be for our youth. Brian believes that every student in our district can excel, and has helped develop a number of programs that offer to the students in our district a chance to learn, stay fit, have fun, and be part of a community.
Brian currently serves as President of the Hastings Basketball Boosters and has also held a similar position in the baseball program. Brian has always promoted collaboration and accountability with these groups. Brian believes that collaboration between teachers, administrators, parents and the school board is key to long-term success in District 200. These are not just words, I’ve seen him in action - especially as the baseball program navigated through some difficult challenges.
As the long-term President of the Basketball Boosters, Brian has worked to keep our board fiscally responsible. He ran two Hastings basketball tournaments and created resources that allowed us keep player fees the same for 8 straight years. In our current economic times, this is absolutely amazing and a real tribute to Brian’s fiscal leadership.
Brian also serves on the board of Hasting Family Services. He is so giving of his time, all in the belief in equal opportunity and discipline for all students regardless of backgrounds and resources. Again, Brian walks the walk and would be a strong leader as our district continues to embrace diversity.
The hiring of a new superintendent during the next couple of months will give our community an opportunity to continue the excellent education that we offer students in district 200. I support Brian Davis as a board member that will lead us through this renewal process.
