This letter is paid content. To the Editor,
I was deeply disappointed to read the personal attacks on Red Wing City Council Candidate Andy Klitzke in a Community Engagement letter on October 24th, signed by current member John Becker’s supporters. The accusations made were unbelievable and unverifiable. I have never seen an attack on any candidate for local office that went so low.
Last minute attacks are designed to distract voters from the issues. I think Red Wing voters are too sophisticated to fall for it.
The writer’s suggestion that John Becker’s censure for misconduct was because the City Council was “embarrassed” is an insult to the intelligence of readers. Censure is a serious matter that requires clear findings of fact.
The letters in support of Klitzke were comparing the candidates on issues of legitimate concern to voters. They all had documented, verifiable facts or opinions based on their experiences with John Becker.
The fact is, serving on the City Council does require a genial temperament, paying attention, a willingness to listen and change your mind after receiving new information, and taking the job seriously.
Klitzke’s supporters raised legitimate concerns that will benefit voters. I followed up on each reference made, including the one citing John Becker not showing up for the important August 3rd budget workshop, where the 2021 budget was created. The records show Becker missed that meeting.
Andy Klitzke has run a solid campaign based on real issues people care about. I like his plans. You can find information at AndyKlitzke.com. People are already reaching out to Andy on Facebook, and he is finding answers for their individual problems. Andy’s dedication to helping people and his positive approach have earned my support.
All Red Wing benefits when good candidates come forward. Ward 2 is especially fortunate to have such a talented choice in Andy Klitzke. Andy has the unique set of skills, combined with right attitude, to be an excellent City Council member. Please elect Andy Klitzke to give him the opportunity to help all our families.
