ELMWOOD - Spring Valley/Plum City's softball team was able to break away from Elmwood in the late innings to win 4-1 Tuesday.

The game was tied 1-1 into the sixth when SV/PC's McKenna Mattison hit a key double which brought home a run which gave the Cardinals the lead. Spring Valley/PC then plated two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Krista Peterson and Heidi Webb led Elmwood in hits with two each and Webb hit a double. Emily Hofacker, Rachel Samdahl and Megan Manor all hit doubles for the Cardinals. Mattison finished with two hits. Samdahl was the winning pitcher.

Elmwood had one its best performances in weeks but the end result was a loss which dropped to 3-16 overall, 1-13 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. Spring Valley/Plum City got back to the .500 mark overall at 9-9 and is now 8-5 in the D-SC, good for fourth place.
