The Hastings Hawks played their second Classic Cannon Valley League game Sunday against the Northfield Knights in a 14-inning, one-run game.
Adam Barta pitched the first six innings and allowed zero runs on four hits. He struck out four batters and walked one. In the seventh, Mark Moriarty took over the mound, pitching seven innings, allowing zero runs on one hit. Moriarty struck out nine batters and walked three.
Derrick Pfeffer pitched the 14th, allowing zero runs or hits. He struck out one batter and walked one.
The only run of the game came after Pfeffer hit a double to left centerfield after one out. Jake Swartout hit a slow roller to first base for the second out, but Pfeffer made it to third. Moriarty, who had struggled earlier in the game against the Knights' pitching, hit a base hit down the third baseline that allowed Pfeffer to score the winning run.
Northfield nearly ended the game in the 12th, but Hawks right-fielder David Goggin slid to catch a sinking fly ball that ended the inning.
Jordy Horsch had two hits. Pfeffer, Moriarty, Swartout, Nick Horsch and T.J. Galenti each had one hit.
