The Red Wing boys and girls both won their home meet Wednesday with the Academy of Holy Angels and Math and Science Academy.
The meet served two purposes for the Red Wing girls.
"We basically used this meet to get us ready for the conference meet on Thursday," girls coach Jesse Nelson.
Farmington will play host to the Missota Conference championship on May 26.
It also provided a chance for Red Wing athletes to try something new. Andrea LaFond did just that. She ran the 100-meter dash for the first time and finished second in 13.88 seconds. LaFond finished .15 seconds behind teammate Lauren Boldt.
"A.J. Lafond in the 100-meter dash was a nice surprise," Nelson said.
Even though Red Wing mixed things up, it still dominated. The Red Wing boys and girls won 27 of the 36 events that were contested.
Luke Johnson had two of the victories, placing first in the shot put (64 feet, 2 inches) and the discus (190-3). Had those throws come at the state meet he would have set a pair of Class AA meet records.
The girls finished with 115 points and Holy Angels took second with 54. The boys tallied 112 points and beat the second-place Stars by 57.
