After a scoreless first half, Lake City senior Asher Kujawa popped in a goal, putting the Tigers in the win column in their season-opener Thursday against St. Charles in Lake City.
With 19 minutes left in the game, Kujawa scored off an assist from Emily Schimbeno.
After dominating play for most of the game, Kujawa’s goal was a reward for Lake City’s persistence in the contest.
“It was a well-played, hard-fought game,” said Tigers’ head coach Mark Spence. “We held St. Charles to one shot in the first half and four in the second half. We were controlling things for most of the match.”
In the net, Lake City junior goalkeeper Beth Peterson collected the shutout with five saves.
The Tigers head to Dover-Eyota on Monday for a non-conference game.
