While this season has been a gloomy one for the Elmwood High school boys’ basketball team, one bright light has managed to break through the dark clouds.

The Raiders will get an opportunity to play in Minneapolis at the Target Center Feb. 1. Elmwood will take on Frederic with the JV game starting at 7 p.m. and the varsity tipping-off at 8:30 p.m. It’s one of a series of high school basketball games taking place on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ home court that day.

“Frederic had been invited to take part and they were looking for an opponent,” EHS head coach Chris Segerstrom said. “They asked us and we jumped on the opportunity.”

The school has 150 tickets to sell for the games provided by the Timberwolves’ front office which go for $15 apiece.

This opportunity to play on the same court as Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio will be big highlight for the Elmwood team, both now and for a long time.

“It’s the experience of a lifetime and everyone is thrilled that we have this chance to play in a profession venue,” Segerstrom said. “It’s going to be a great experience.”

While Elmwood will be looking for another win, their fellow Pierce County D-SC members will be looking to hold their spots in the top half of the standings and improve their seeding position as well.

Plum City, 6-4 in the league standings, hosts Glenwood City this evening and then plays a rescheduled contest at Spring Valley, who is 6-3 in the D-SC, on Saturday. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are at Boyceville on Thursday.

Also trying to hold their spots are Prescott and Ellsworth's boys basketball teams. Prescott's undefeated in the Middle Border Conference is at Amery while Ellsworth is at Amery Friday in a doubleheader with the EHS girls team .

Prescott's girls team is in action tonight at home vs. Osceola while tomorrow Elmwood at Spring Valley as both teams look to add a D-SC win and Plum City is at Elk Mound.
