Led by Ryan Alpers’ 15 points, 10th-ranked (Class 1A) Goodhue opened its season with a 59-43 non-conference win over Bethlehem Academy Friday in Goodhue.

Alpers was 4-for-6 from the field and 7 of 10 from the free-throw line to lead the Wildcats in scoring. Jacob Pasch and Ben Opsahl both had nine points, Taylor Buck chipped in with eight, and Sam McNamamara dished out five assists and had five rebounds to go with four points.

For the Cardinals, Jack Clark (13) and Damon Trump (11) both finished in double digits.

Goodhue (1-0) opens Hiawatha Valley League play Tuesday at Kasson-Mantorville.
