With Weston Wyatt leading the way, the Red Wing boys' cross-country team won the Section 1AA title.

Wyatt won the race in 15 minutes, 52.4 seconds with teammates Tom Nemanich coming in fifth, Jonah Leise in 10th place, Bryan Zucker in 13th place, Skyler Bennyhoff in 29th, Caleb Korder in 48th and Peter Mitchell in 85th.

"We ran OK last week at the conference meet, but the boys knew they could run a little bit better and they went out and did that today," said Red Wing head coach Jesse Nelson. "I'm very proud of Weston for winning the section and winning the conference."

The boys' went to state ready to challenge the bigger Class AA schools. Wyatt, again, led the team with a 21st-place finish. The team came in fifth place behind Edina, Mounds View, Wayzata and Stillwater.

While the team came up short on their goals, Nelson was pleased with the progress throughout the season.

"I'm pretty proud of our effort and what we accomplished this year and the way we can compete against anybody in the state, even in the region," Nelson said. "It's a good feeling to be able to compete with anybody in the state."

Grace Johnson finished the girls' race in 17th place with a time of 18:29.0.

"It was a really big relief and I was happy with my times," Johnson said. "I had some races that were a little more discouraging earlier in the year but I'm very glad I was able to get past those."
