The Rosemount Irish boys' tennis team hosted St. Paul Highland Park Tuesday evening for the first round of section 3AA team playoffs. The Irish, who are the No. 5 seed, swept No. 12-seeded St. Paul Highland Park 7-0 to advance to the second round. Thursday, they faced off against No. 4 seed Eagan, to whom they lost 6-1.

Against St. Paul Highland Park, sophomore Aashish Bharath beat Charlie Weill 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 singles. Seventh-grader Tygen Goldammer swept Anders Lange 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles and freshman Austin Johnson took No. 3 singles over Josh Glynn 6-1, 6-1. Junior Tyler Frey grabbed No.4 singles 6-3, 7-6 against Max Cornell.

In doubles, the Irish cruised in No. 1 and 2 doubles, but had a tight match at No. 3. Eighth-grader Caden Goldammer and senior Jacob Green beat Mulvaney/Rose 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles and senior Kelson Fox and junior Unnath Salagram took No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-2 over Rodriguez/Tamali. Seniors Collin Larson and Eric Otness had a tight match at No. 3 doubles but got the win over Pinto/Taylor 4-6, 7-5(11-9).

Rosemount will next have individual sections on Thursday, May 25, at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.
