The trails of Whitetail Ridge in River Falls played host to the fifth race in the Minnesota High School Cycling League's seven race series Sunday, Oct. 7, and the local St. Croix Composite team highlighted the day by placing first in the high school division and second in the middle school races.

Close to 1,000 riders from 38 teams from Minnesota and Western Wisconsin descended on the Whitetail Ridge trails for a full day of racing. The St. Croix Valley Mountain Bike team includes Hudson and the St. Croix Composite team consisting of riders from River Falls, Prescott and the surrounding area.

Local riders swept the top three spots in the freshman boys race with Leo Paquette of Hudson placing first, Isaac Silver of St. Croix Composite second and Liam McDonald of Hudson third. Elizabeth Yray of Hudson took third in the freshman girls' race while Elise Frisbee of St. Croix Composite was eighth.

Brandon Riley of Hudson finished second in the JV2 boys competition and William O'Neil of St. Croix Composite was sixth, while John-Eric Klecker of St. Croix Composite was second in the JV3 boys race and Gabrielle Gujer of St. Croix Composite was fourth in the JV3 girls race.

Blake Wakeling and Michael Regnier of St. Croix Composite both finished in the top ten in the 8th grade boys race with Wakeling placing third and Regnier ninth, while Maysa Burnam of Hudson was second in the 8th grade girls race

Grace Gujer of St. Croix Composite took second place in in the 7th grade girls' race, while in the 7th grade boys race, Shayne Maillette of St. Croix Composite was sixth and Jack Keller of Hudson placed seventh,

The next race in the Minnesota High School Cycling League series is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 14, at Spirit Mountain in Duluth.
