Pickleball, the game that has nothing to do with pickles, is looking for more players in Mazeppa.

As a part of community education, a pickleball league will run until Dec. 16 in the Big Gym at the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Elementary School.

The game is a mix between tennis, badminton and ping pong, making the game an excellent workout and social interaction in one.

Dana Frederixon, who helps organize the event, has been playing for years after looking for a new game to play.

Frederixon started out playing in Rochester and has even played in states like Florida and Arizona while on vacation.

Frederixon said down south, the competition is dense, with many older people enjoying the sport. But the game isn't just for older people, young people can enjoy the game as well.

"A lot of people say the dumbest thing about pickleball is the name ... The thing is here, you're stretching, you're moving," Frederixon said. "That's the big thing, it's good for old duffers like me."

The league is played at 6 p.m. with any experience level welcome to play.
