Over 100 people turned out at Big Guys BBQ Roadhouse Saturday night, Nov. 3, to honor longtime Hudson High School track and cross country coach Don Krupa for his 50 years of coaching at the school.
The event was organized by Krupa's friends Len and Han Meissen, whose son Ryan, was a standout runner for Krupa at Hudson High School. Meissen was just one of Krupa's former student-athletes and friends who turned out to celebrate his milestone.
Krupa started his coaching career at Hudson High School in the spring of 1969 as an assistant track coach. He became the head cross country coach that fall.
In 50 years Krupa has guided the Raiders to 33 conference championships, 13 in the Middle Border Conference and 20 in the Big Rivers. His teams have won 14 WIAA sectional titles and been runner-up 14 more times.
Krupa retired from teaching in 2007 but continues to coach the Raiders cross country teams each fall and assist with track and field in the spring. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association (WCCCA) Hall of Fame in 2010.
