Former River Falls High School classmates Annie Frisbie and Trent Powell will both compete at the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships in Madison this Saturday, Nov. 17, after helping their teams qualify at their respective regional meets over the weekend.

Frisbie helped the No. 15-ranked Iowa State University women cruise to their third straight NCAA Midwest Regional title in Peoria, Ill., Saturday, Nov. 10, while Powell was part of the No. 14 Colorado State University men's team that earned at at-large bid at the Mountain West Regional in Provo, Utah.

It will be the third straight NCAA National appearance for Frisbie and the second for Powell, who both graduated from River Falls High School in 2014.

Frisbie was the third Iowa State runner across the finish line at the Midwest Regional, and sixth overall, with a 6,000-meter time of 20 minutes, 29.1 seconds, to earn All-Region honors for the third straight year. One week earlier she earned All-Big 12 honors for the third straight time while helping the Cyclones win their seventh Big 12 championship in the last eight years at the conference meet in Ames, Iowa.

Powell helped his Colorado State team place fourth at the Mountain West Regional with a 7,000-meter time of 30:04.1. He was the third Colorado State finisher while placing 30th overall.

Frisbie won the WIAA Division 1 state cross-country title as a senior at River Falls High School in 2014 and went on to be named the 2014-15 Gatorade Wisconsin Cross-Country Runner of the Year. A four-time state qualifier in cross-country and track and field, she was state runner-up in the 3,200-meter run at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships as a senior.

Powell finished fifth, in the 1,600-meter run at the 2013 WIAA State Meet and was fourth at the 2013 State Cross-Country Championships his senior year.

Frisbie still holds the 5,000-meter cross-country school record for the Wildcat girls program and Powell holds the 5,000-meter record for the boys while Frisbie is the girls' 1,600- and 3,200-meter record holder in track and field and Powell holds the 1,600-meter record for the boys.

The 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison this Saturday, Nov. 17.
