During the regular season, East Ridge came back in the fourth quarter to defeat St. Thomas Academy. It was a similar situation on Thursday afternoon, but the Cadets were trailing 5-4 in the last quarter.
This time, though, St. Thomas Academy came back from the deficit and scored six goals to win 10-5 over the Raptors. That loss on Thursday ended the 2019 season for East Ridge.
It was a high-scoring first quarter between the two teams as the Raptors scored first with a goal from Jack Mohler. The Cadets came back with two goals, but East Ridge repeated that with two goals from Isaac Edwards.
St. Thomas Academy stopped the Raptors in the second quarter and connected on two goals to make it a 4-3 lead for the Cadets at the half.
The only score in the third quarter came from Ben Marburger to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the last quarter. The Raptors quickly scored in the fourth from the help of Zach Beaubien to take a 5-4 lead.
Then, the Cadets hit a hot streak and scored six straight goals to end the game and advance to the state tournament.
It was a strong season for the Raptors as they finished 11-2 in the regular season. That record put them in second place behind Stillwater in the conference and a No. 1 seed in the section tournament.
East Ridge had a team filled with seniors and those 14 seniors have transformed the boys' lacrosse program. Some of those seniors include Mohler, Edwards, Marburger, Thomas Miles, Tomy Ogren and TJ Johnson.
The Raptors will have players like David Henry, Riley Larson, Dillon Peterson and Peter Young back for the 2020 season.
East Ridge 12, Cretin-Derham Hall 5
East Ridge faced a few changes before the game as the semifinal game was moved to the HealthEast Sports Complex and the time changed from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
That didn't bother the Raptors as they defeated No. 5 seed Cretin-Derham Hall with a 12-5 final score to advance to the section finals game.
In the first quarter, Cretin-Derham Hall had the first laugh as East Ridge was trailing 3-1. The Raptors came out in the second quarter with an explosive offense.
Ben Marburger and Isaac Edwards each scored a goal, while Jack Mohler scored three goals to give East Ridge a 6-3 lead heading into the half. Marburger and Dillon Peterson kept increasing the score with goals in the third quarter and making it an 8-4 lead for East Ridge.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, four different Raptors scored to put the lead out of reach. Edwards, Peterson, Noah Markus and Zach Beaubien each scored in the last quarter.
Thomas Miles was the goalie for the Raptors on Tuesday and continued his success. He saved 14 of the 19 shots on goal.
East Ridge 24, Hastings 1
It was a dominating night for East Ridge as the Raptors opened up the section tournament with a 24-1 win over Hastings on Friday night.
The Raptors scored 12 goals in the first quarter and 10 more in the second quarter to lead 22-0 at the half. After the first half, the scoring reduced as East Ridge ended with a 24-1 win.
Isaac Edwards and Dillon Peterson led the Raptors with six goals each, while Edwards collected four assists. Jack Mohler and Sam Forseth each scored two goals, while 12 players each had at least one goal in the game.
Thomas Miles saved four of the five shots on goal in the game.
Cretin-Derham Hall 8, Woodbury 4
Woodbury hosted Cretin-Derham Hall on Friday night in a battle of No. 4 and 5 seeds in the opening round of the section tournament.
The Royals weren't able to hold off Cretin-Derham Hall as Woodbury fell 8-4 to end their 2019 season.
Woodbury ended its season with a 7-6 record and will graduate 13 seniors this year on their roster including Zach Bernstein, Jonah Kopinski and Alex Dunleavy.
They will be returning goalie Garet Long next year as well as the Hooley brothers, Conor and Ayden.
