The Hudson Junior American Legion team came all the way through the loser's bracket at the Wisconsin 16U State Tournament in Manitowoc to reach the semifinals of the five-day tournament before ending it with a 9-1 loss to Onalaska.
After a 5-2 opening round loss to Seymour Friday, July 19, Hudson bounced back to beat host Manitowoc 8-0 and Jackson 8-4 Sunday, July 21, and defeated Beaver Dam 2-0 Monday, July 22 before falling to Onalaska Tuesday, July 23. Seymour went on to defeat Onalaska 5-3 to win the 16U state title.
Onalaska scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning against Hudson, aided by a pair of Hudson errors and a hit batter, to build a 9-0 lead. Just three of Onalaska's nine runs were earned as Hudson committed five errors in the game.
Hudson's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth when Logan Vonberge reached on a fielder's choice, Owen Weadge and Brennan Ducharme followed with singles and Vonberge scored on a sac fly by Tim Hasapopoulos.
Each team had nine hits in the game with Ben Parent leading Hudson with three singles.
Owen McCabe took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs, three earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Parent allowed two hits in two scoreless innings of relief before Vonberge and Will Haverly pitched an inning each.
