The Red Wing girls' swim and dive team fell to Mankato East 94-87 on Thursday.

"We haven't competed against East in a dual for a few years, so we weren't sure where they were going to place their top swimmers," head coach Mikayla Beuch said. "It ultimately allowed for some great matchups on both teams and helped push some fast times."

The familiar team of Grace O'Brien, Sammy Kriese, Cecelia De Jong and Teegan Beyers came in first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 54.72 seconds. The group also won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.20.

Beyers finished second place in the 200 freestyle (2:09.82) and second in the 100 freestyle (57.09). O'Brien took second in the 100 backstroke (1:11.29) while Kriese won the 100 breaststroke (1:14.65).

De Jong won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.65. De Jong narrowly missed first place in the 50 freestyle (25.25), finishing .02 seconds behind East's Maddie Hogue.

Freshman Sophie Carlson came in second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33.50.

"We love dual meets but our eyes are always on the bigger goals of the season," Beuch said. "It's tough losing the first meet but this is only our starting point and we are only going up from here."
