Twenty-three Mako Aquatics swimmers and coaches traveled to the University of Minnesota to participate in the 2019 Speedo Central Zone Section 1 Sectional Meet July 18-21 with many moving on to NCSA Junior Nationals in new events.
New NCSA Junior National qualifiers included Sven Becker in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly and Sky DuPont in the 200 and 400 freestyle.
New team individual records were set by Ellery Ottem in the girls' age 13-14 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Rhian Neitzel in the girls' 13-14 200 breaststroke, DuPont in the girls' 15-16 200 free, 400 free, 1,500 free and 100 backstroke, Melissa Parker in the girls' 50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 400 free, Gabby Vitela in the girls' 800 free and 400 individual medley, Ella Stein in the girls' 200 breaststroke, Becker in the boys' 13-14 200 free, 100 fly, 200 fly and 400 individual medley, Steven Asmus in the boys' 17-18 800 free, and Joe Saldin in the boys' 17-18 200 breast.
New team relay records were set by DuPont, Parker, Grace Rauker and Ottem in the women's open 4x100 free relay, David Beck, Asmus, Logan McLaughlin and Becker in the men's open 4x200 free relay and Becker, McLaughlin, Asmus and Theo Johansen in the men's open 4x100 medley relay.
Mako Aquatics finished 14th in the final team scoring.
