The Red Wing volleyball team lost in three sets on Thursday to Rochester Mayo.

The Spartans took the first set 25-11 and the second set 25-12. The Wingers battled hard in the third set, but fell short, losing 25-22.

"We ran into a tough, fast paced offense tonight," Red Wing head coach Lindsay Woychek said. "We finally started to get into system in the third set, even holding a small lead, but were unable to pull out the win. The team played well together and created some long lasting rallies."

Abi Deming had a team-high seven kills and tallied seven digs as well as two blocks. Savannah Bryan had 14 assists and seven digs. Elle Thorson had eight digs while contributing five kills to the offense. Emily Burow finished with a team-high nine digs.

Red Wing travels to Winona on Saturday for an invitational, then faces Lake City on Monday, Sept. 9 at 7:15 p.m.
