The Red Wing boys' basketball team trailed early and couldn't recover, falling 60-46 to tenth-ranked Austin on Friday.
The Packer defense overwhelmed the Wingers. The Packers brought an aggressive double-team defense in on ball handlers on the perimeter and caused the Wingers to have to pass multiple times to get through the backcourt.
DonTray Johnson returned the lineup and led the Wingers with 19 points on three 3-pointers and three steals. Denval Atkinson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Maurice Rosebear and Cooper Chandler each scored five points. Andrew Ball had four points, while Henry Davig added seven rebounds and four assists.
Red Wing (2-20) next travel to Albert Lea on Tuesday, then host Winona on Friday.
Red Wing extended its losing streak to 14 games with a 66-29 loss to Rochester Century on Tuesday.
Reese Tripp led the Wingers with nine points. Ben Kuehni had eight points and six rebounds. Andrew Ball added six points and three rebounds.
