Sixth-seeded Marshfield built a 4-0 third inning lead on its way to defeating Hudson 7-1 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Tuesday, May 28, in Marshfield.
Hudson’s lone run came in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 4-1 game. Ben Gilbert and Ryan Rubin led off the inning with singles and Tyler Stubbendick walked to load the bases before Gilbert scored on a sacrifice fly by Matteo Bonin for the second out of the inning. Teddy Donna ripped a line drive to right field but it was run down by the Marshfield outfielder for the final out of the inning.
Marshfield answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to make the final 7-1. Hudson committed four errors in the game that led to three unearned Tiger runs.
Sean Barnard doubled for the Raiders in the loss while Gilbert, Rubin, Stubbendick and Donna each had a single.
Donna took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks in three innings of work. Barnard was tagged for three unearned runs on two hits in two-plus innings while Jack Erickson recorded the final three outs after relieving Erickson in the sixth.
The loss ended the Raider’s season with a record of 5-15.
