Hudson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Seymour scored twice in the bottom of the inning and added three runs in the third to earn a 5-2 victory in the opening round of the Junior American Legion State Tournament Friday, July 19, in Manitowoc.
Brody Vonberge singled with two outs and Logan Vonberge walked before Brody Vonberge scored on a single by Ben Land to give Hudson an early 1-0 lead.
Two doubles and an error led to two Seymour runs in the bottom of the first and a three-run inside-the-park home run in the third pushed the score to 5-1. A single by Owen McCabe, a sacrifice bunt by Will Haverly and a single by Troy Bounting in the top of the seventh cut Hudson’s deficit to 5-2 but that’s as close as they could get.
Brody Vonberge went 3-for-3 with a walk to lead Hudson at the plate while Owen Wedge took the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks in two-plus innings. McCabe gave up one run on two hits while striking out three and walking two in 3 2/3 innings.
Hudson will play at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in the loser’s bracket of the double elimination tournament.
