The Wildcat boys' basketball team slipped down a notch in the jumble of teams at the top of the Big Rivers Conference with a 63-61 overtime loss to Eau Claire North Saturday, Jan. 26, in Eau Claire.

River Falls led 26-22 at the break and 43-36 with 8:25 remaining but needed a free throw from Zac Johnson with six second left to force overtime. The Huskies opened the extra session with a three-pointer and a basket by JT Dougherty with 1:20 on the clock tied the score 61-61 before North held the ball and got the go-ahead basket by Dalton Banks with eight seconds left.

Johnson's three-point attempt as time would down bounced off and Adam Feyereisen rebounded the ball under the basket but his hurried put-back was short as the buzzer sounded.

Mike Johnson came off the bench to lead the Wildcats with 15 points while Dougherty scored 11. Feyereisen had nine points, eight rebound and 12 assists and Mike Vitt scored nine points while Zac Johnson finished with seven. Eau Claire North's Banks led all scorers with 28.

The loss dropped the Wildcats into third place in the BRC at 4-3. Eau Claire North improved to 5-3 and into a tie for second place with Eau Claire Memorial, one game behind conference leader Hudson.

The Wildcats, now 10-5 overall, will host Hudson (11-3, 6-2) Thursday, Jan. 31, at 7:15 p.m.
