River Falls outscored Eau Claire Memorial 31-13 in a 12-minute span of the second half to break open a close game and defeat the Old Abes 67-52 Thursday night, Feb. 14, at the Cat’s Den.

The victory kept the Wildcats one game behind Big Rivers Conference leader Hudson with two league games remaining. Hudson defeated Menomonie 74-47 Thursday night to improve to 8-2 in the BRC while River Falls’ is right behind at 7-3. The Wildcats visit Chippewa Falls (5-5) Tuesday, Jan. 21 before hosting Hudson in the final game of the regular season Saturday, Feb. 23.

The Wildcats went into halftime against the Old Abes clinging to a one-point lead, 28-27, before going on a 21-10 run after the break. Adam Feyereisen’s basket opened up a 10-point lead, 47-37, and back-to back three-pointers by Johnson and J.T. Dougherty opened up a 52-40 Wildcat lead before a pair of layups by Mike Vitt gave River Falls its largest lead of the game, 59-40, with six minutes remaining.

Johnson led the Wildcats with 17 points and eight rebounds and Feyereisen had 11 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals while Dougherty finished with 11 points. Taylor Tirrel hit three three-pointers to finish with nine points and Vitt had seven while Payton Flood contributed six.

The victory bumped the Wildcat’s record to 13-6 overall while Eau Claire Memorial slipped to 11-6 overall, 6-4 in BRC play.
