The Hastings Raiders cross-country teams hosted their annual Dewey Minnaert Invitational — named after long-time Hastings cross-country coach Dewey Minnaert — on Thursday, Sept. 5, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. The Raider girls finished fourth out of seven teams while the Hastings boys took sixth out of 12 teams in what was both teams’ second race of the season. One new wrinkle this year was a change in the course layout that saw the race organizers move both the start and finish as well as making the course less hilly.
Hastings’ top finisher for both teams was junior Linnea Urban, who took ninth in the girls’ race with a time of 21 minutes, 19.50 seconds. Also finishing in the top-20 were eighth grader Genevieve Lawson in 18th with a time of 23:08.99, fellow eighth grader Elise Atkins took 19th in 23:11.00 and right behind her was eighth grader Jordyn Doughty placed 20th (23:11.80). Seventh grader Carlee Kordosky took 24th with a time of 23:45.34, freshman Molly Caturia finished 33rd in 24:20.44 and junior Brooke Erickson placed 35th (24:26.93).
The boys were led by sophomore Tyler Bushinski who took 24th with a time of 18:19.12, junior Nolan Myers finished 30th in 18:35.39 and senior Luke Harris placed 36th (18:55.50). Junior Evan McGinnis was 41st in 19:02.66, sophomore Thomas Siebenaler finished 43rd (19:10.41) and sophomore Alexander Smith took 54th with a time of 19:59.84. Junior Liam Shelhamer took 63rd in 20:20.79.
Both teams have their Metro East Conference prelims at St. Croix Regional Park on Tuesday, Sept. 10. On Thursday, Sept. 14, they go to Rochester for a meet hosted by Rochester Mayo at Eastwood Golf Course. They then have 10 days off before their next meet.
