The Hastings Raiders boys' golf team finished its regular season the past two weeks with three meets, including the Metro East Conference championship. They took first on their home course of Dakota Pines in their final conference meet before the championship, took 11th at the East Ridge Invite at Stone Ridge and then competed in the Metro East Conference championship at Keller Golf Course.
The East Ridge was held at Stone Ridge on Wednesday, May 15, and the Raiders shot a 320 to take 11th out of 20 teams. Nick Dittrich shot a 71 to take second by a stroke behind Ben Hicks of Chanhassen, who shot a 70. Jack Williams shot a 78, Terry Kuhn an 85, Sam Brown 86, Jake Erickson 91 and Joe Benson 97.
The next day, Hastings hosted the final conference meet of the season at Dakota Pines. The Raiders won the meet with a score of 160, narrowly edging out Simley who scored a 162. Head coach Pete McGinnis said Kuhn's short game was excellent and helped him shoot a team-low 38, one ahead of Dittrich who shot a 39. Jack Williams shot a 40, Erickson a 43, Brown a 45 and Ryan Swanson came in with a 51.
Last Wednesday, the Metro East Conference championships were held at Keller Golf Course and Dittrich started the day tied for the conference lead. However, he ended the day by shooting a 71 and secured his first MEC individual championship.
The Raiders are playing well heading into section play, which is Tuesday, May 29, and Wednesday, May 30, at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City.
