The Rosemount Irish boys’ and girls’ golf teams were well-represented at the Class AAA state golf meet Tuesday and Wednesday, held at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids. Seniors Sydney Regalado, Wyatt Ebner and Parker Trana all ended their prep golf careers for the Irish, while sophomore Luke Rexing has a bright future ahead of him.
Regalado finished in a tie for 48th with a two-day score of 176. She shot a day one 43-46 and then improved on day two with a 42-45. After she finished, Regalado said she had played better at state tournaments in the past.
“I wasn’t really happy (with her day one score), I’ve definitely done a lot better in the past in the my previous state meets,” she said. “But I just struggled a little with my putting and my distance control. I just tried to stay positive, and especially today I stayed more positive.”
Last year she finished in a tie for 34th with a score of 169 and in 2015 she tied for 28th with a 167.
Regalado added that she was very happy with how her season went as a hole, including some good rounds. She will attend Gustavus Adolphus College in the fall and also continue her golf career with the Gusties.
The Irish boys were led by Ebner and Trana who both shot 162’s and tied for 67th. Rexing, in his first state tournament appearance, tied for 74th with a score of 164 and will look to return the next two years.
