The Minnesota State High School League announced section realignments for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 season on Thursday, April 4. The only Raider sports team that is set to move is the girls' golf team, which will move from Section 1AAA to Section 3AAA next spring. They will still compete in Section 1AAA this spring and summer.
In the Raiders' new section next year will be Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, East Ridge, Eastview, Henry Sibley, Park, Rosemount, Simley and Woodbury.
They leave Section 1AAA, which will now have Albert Lea, Austin, Faribault, Farmington, Lakeville North, Lakeville South, Northfield, Owatonna, Rochester Century, Rochester John Marshall, Rochester Mayo and Winona.
The rest of Hastings sports stay in the sections they are currently in. In the fall, football, volleyball and girls' soccer all remain in the Section 3. Boys' soccer is still in Section 4 while cross-country, girls' tennis and girls' swimming and diving stay in Section 1.
In the winter, boys' hockey, boys' swimming and diving, gymnastics and nordic skiing stay in Section 1. Girls' hockey, boys' and girls' basketball and wrestling are all still in Section 3 and alpine skiing stays in Section 4.
Finally for the spring sports, baseball, softball, boys' tennis and the boys' and girls' lacrosse teams all remain in Section 3. Boys' golf and the track and field teams stay in Section 1.
Just as big for Raider athletics is Lakeville North moving to Section 3 in boys' and girls' soccer, girls' hockey, baseball, and boys' and girls' basketball. The section slate only gets more difficult for all those Hastings teams besides boys' soccer.
