Four of Hudson’s five players broke 80 to lead the Raiders to a first place team finish and River Falls finished six strokes behind in second place as both teams moved one step closer to state at the WIAA Division 1 Boys’ Golf Regional Tournament Tuesday, May 21, at Nemadji Golf Course in Superior.
Hudson won the regional title with a score of 311 and River Falls was second with 317 while Eau Claire Memorial finished third with 319 and Superior fourth with 321. All four teams advanced to the Division 1 Sectional Wednesday, May 29, at New Richmond.
Hudson’s Ben Pendleton finished in a three-way tie for first place individually with a score of 76 while teammates Charley Chase and Jason Swavely were part of a five-way tie for seventh with rounds of 78. Jacob Johnson rounded out the Raider’s team total with 79 and Nolan Wagner shot 84.
River Falls’ Max Xiong finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 77 and Justin Graetz was one of five players at 78 while Taylor Thompson shot 80, Taylor Rotsaert 82 and Trey Timm 90.
Hudson, River Falls, Eau Claire Memorial and Superior will be joined by the top four teams from the Antigo Regional-- Marshfield, Stevens Point, Wausau West and Antigo-- for the sectional tournament at the New Richmond Golf Course Wednesday, May 29. The top two teams, and the top three individuals who are not members of a qualifying team, will compete at the WIAA State Tournament Monday and Tuesday, June 3-4, at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
