Jaden Woiwode's goal with just over six minutes remaining in the third period snapped a 1-1 tie and Lilly Accola scored into an empty net with 20 seconds left to lift the ninth-ranked St. Croix Valley Fusion to a 3-1 victory over the Hayward Hurricanes Tuesday night, Dec. 4, in Hayward.

Playing their first game in 10 days, the Fusion (River Falls/Baldwin-Woodville/St. Croix Central) took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Bella Rasmussen scored with an assist from Amber DeLong.

Neither team scored in the second period and Hayward stepped up the pressure in the third, outshooting the Fusion 10-4. But the Fusion got the game-winner from Woiwode, assisted by Rasmussen and Amber Buck, with 6:06 remaining before Accola's empty-netter sealed it.

Fusion goalie Sydney Seeley made 24 saves as Hayward outshot St. Croix Valley, 25-21. Just one penalty was called in the game, an interference call on Hayward midway through the second period, but the Hurricanes were able to kill it off.

The Fusion improved to 2-1 with the victory and will face the second-ranked Central Wisconsin Storm (D.C. Everest Co-op) Saturday, Dec. 8, in Schofield.
