The Rosemount Irish girls' hockey team fought back from a 3-0 deficit but ended up losing to the East Ridge Raptors 3-2 in the first round of the Section 3AA playoffs Wednesday night, Feb. 6. The Irish were the No. 6 seed and traveled to East Ridge, the No. 3 seed. With the loss the season ends for Rosemount, who finish with an overall record of 11-14 including the playoffs and a 7-11 record in the South Suburban Conference.

East Ridge scored two goals toward the end of the first period and another 14 minutes into the second to lead Rosemount 3-0. However, the Irish cut into that deficit before the second period ended when sophomore Ava Nygaard scored assisted by freshman Ava Webster. It stayed 3-1 Raptors until the final minute of the game when freshman Whitney Tuttle scored with help from sophomore Savannah Hutchins. However, they were unable to tie the game in the final 30 seconds and fell 3-2.

Rosemount loses just four seniors to graduation this spring-goalie Brynn Kimel, Mckenna Jacobson, Skylar Smith and Emma Ginter-but they also return five out of their top six point earners and goal scorers. They also will return the core of their team the next two years as they have just one junior on the team this year-Ashley Tuttle who is fourth on the team in points and sixth in goals.

Eagan, the No. 1 seed, beat No. 8 Hastings 4-1 in the top half of the bracket while No. 4 Apple Valley beat No. 5 Eastview 3-2. East Ridge will go on to play No. 7 Park of Cottage Grove-who beat No. 2 Burnsville 2-1 in overtime-on Saturday, Feb. 9. The section championship game is next Wednesday, Feb. 13.
