Tye Kusilek scored the only goal of the first period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, but Chippewa Falls scored three times in the second period and another in the third to hand the Cats a 4-1 loss in a Big Rivers Conference boys' hockey game Saturday, Feb. 9, in Chippewa Falls.

River Falls dominated the first period, outshooting the Cardinals 20-7 and taking a 1-0 lead on Kusilek's goal at the 8:38 mark, assisted by Nick Longsdorf,

The Cardinal turned the tables in the second period and scored on three of their 20 shots, including a power play goal just before the end of the session to open up a 3-1 lead. They added a shorthanded goal three minutes into the third to make the final 4-1.

Wildcat goalie Jake Miller finished with 28 saves as the Cats outshot the Cardinals 37-32. River Falls dropped to 8-14-0 overall, 3-8-0 in the BRC, while Chippewa Falls improved to 14-7-1, 8-3-0 in conference play.

The Wildcats' nonconference game against Holy Angels scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 7 was cancelled due to weather and will not be made up. The Cats wrapped up the regular season with a make-up game against Eau Claire Memorial Monday, Feb. 11, before beginning postseason play Thursday, Feb. 14 in New Richmond. River Falls is the No. 5 seed in the 10-team sectional bracket while the Tigers are No. 4.
