RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The Hudson girls’ hockey team scored a pair of third period goals to snap a tie game and beat the St. Croix Valley Fusion for the second time in a week, 5-3, Tuesday night, Jan. 5, in River Falls.

Hattie Carr netted the go-ahead goal with just under six minutes remaining, with assists from Avery Johnson and Avery Haider, before Leah Parker’s second goal of the game into an empty net iced it in the final minute with Taylor Halverson earning an assist.

The Fusion struck first when Kendall Sundby took a pass from Trinity Mittl in stride and sent a shot just under the crossbar 4 minutes, 11 seconds into the game. Hudson’s Denman Rode went coast-to-coast to tie the score four minute later and the Raiders took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal by Parker at the 13:48 mark, assisted by Halverson and Nikki Olund.

St. Croix Valley scored twice in the first four minutes of the second period with Makenzie Weiss tying it up with assists from Bella Rasmuson and Tyann Mittl, and Trinity Mittl giving the Fusion a 3-2 lead with Jaden Woiwode and Juneau Paulsen assisting.

Olund converted a shorthanded goal for Hudson with 1:48 remaining in the second period to tie things up again before Carr and Parker put it away for Hudson in the third.

The Fusion outshot the Raiders 33-17 with Hudson’s Amelia Haulunen finishing with 30 saves and St. Croix Valley’s Olivia Dumond 12.

Saturday Halunen stopped all 16 shots she faced and Olund scored twice as the Raiders shut out the Lakeshore Lightning, 3-0, in Mequon.

Olun scored a goal in the first period assisted by Averie Martin and Parker and netted a power play goal in the second with Avery Johnson and Rode assisting before Parker ended the scoring with a third period on a power play with assists from Rode and Johnson.

The Raiders, now 6-1-0, hosted the second-ranked Eau Claire/Altoona Stars Tuesday, Jan. 12, and will visit Chippewa Falls/Menomonie Thursday, Jan. 14, before hosting Superior Saturday, Jan. 16.

Fusion snap skid with win at Hayward

After back-to-back losses to Hudson, the St. Croix Valley Fusion put one back in the win column with a 3-1 victory at Hayward Thursday night, Jan. 7.

Woiwode had a goal and assist in the win and Sundby and Jenna Bergmanis had a goal each while Paulsen picked up one assist. Dumond stopped the first 19 shots she faced before Hayward spoiled the shutout with one second remaining. The Fusion outshot the Hurricanes 24-20.

Saturday the Fusion fired 64 shots on goal at Superior and came home with a 10-2 victory to improve to even their record at 4-4-0 on the season.

Paulson and Bergmanis scored four goals each and Woiwode and Tyann Mittl had one each while Trinity Mittl, Sundby, and Sophia John had one assist each. Dumond made 17 saves in the first two periods before Jasmine Peterson stopped six of the seven shots she faced in the third.

The Fusion will host Chippewa Falls/Menomonie Tuesday, Jan. 12, in River Falls and visit Eau Claire Thursday, Jan. 14 before visiting Chippewa Falls Friday, Jan. 15.
