Mother Nature's been a little fickle so far this spring, but that hasn't stopped River Falls High School student-athletes from preparing for their respective upcoming seasons.
The Wildcat boys tennis and boys golf teams held their first practices Monday, March 26, the last of the high school's six spring programs to begin workouts. Weather permitting, most teams will begin competition next week.
The Wildcat track and field teams already have a pair of indoor meets under their belts after competing at the prestigious All-American Invitational Saturday, March 24 and the Big Rivers Conference Indoor Relays Tuesday, March 27. They will run at the Minnesota State University-Mankato Varsity Showcase Saturday, March 31, before opening the outdoor portion of their schedule at the Knights Under the Lights Invitational in Irondale, Minn., Friday, April 13. River Falls will host the Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle Friday, April 20, at UW-River Falls' Ramer Field.
After a spring break trip to Arizona, the Wildcat baseball team is scheduled to open its season Tuesday, April 3, at Somerset before hosting Hudson in the Big Rivers Conference opener Tuesday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. at First National Bank of River Falls Field.
The boys tennis team will see its first action of the season with a dual match at Baldwin-Woodville Thursday, April 5, before returning to Baldwin two days later for the Baldwin-Woodville Invitational. Its first home match will be a BRC dual with Eau Claire North Thursday, April 12.
The Wildcat softball and boys golf teams will both begin play Monday, April 9, with the softball team visiting Baldwin-Woodville and the golfers at Troy Burne for the 20-team Hudson Invitational, while the girls soccer team will jump right into conference action against Hudson Tuesday, April 10, at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
