The 69th annual Youth Day at the Hudson Rod, Gun and Archery Club, sponsored by the North St. Paul, Maplewod and Oakdale Rotary clubs and the Hudson Rod, Gun and Archery Club, will be held Saturday, June 1, at the club's grounds at 285 Krattley Lane in Hudson.

Check-in, late registration and a pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held from 8-10 a.m. with events running from 10 a.m-5 p.m.

This year's Youth Day promises to be the biggest and best yet with many great door prizes including hunting and fishing gear as well as hunts and fishing trips. Prizes have been donated by sponsors including Hudson Ford, Fleet Farm, Henry Rifles and Airtec Sports, to name a few. The Woodbury Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Fund provided a sizable grant to the event this year with money earned from customers rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar.

Youth Day is open to all kids ages 7-15 and the event is free of charge. Parents and other family members are welcome and encouraged to participate as well. Included is all equipment (guns, ammunition, bows and arrows), necessary safety equipment (hearing and eye protection) as well as lunch and drinks. There will be several outdoor-related stations to provide hands on experience with activities including fishing, shotgun and .22 rifle shooting and archery.

Booths will also be set up by many of the sponsors of the event. Demonstrations will be held throughout the day including black powder muzzleloading, cowboy action shooting, hunting dogs, and bowfishing. The Meyer Brothers Shotgun Shooting Exhibition Show, featuring local Olympic shooting hopeful Reed Meyer, will also perform. Kids and parents can test their shooting skills at the old-fashioned shooting gallery using airsoft, pellet or BB guns.

Firearm safety is a top priority and one-on-one coaching will be available. Certified ASL interpreters are also available; please indicate when registering if an interpreter is required. An action track chair is available to anyone in need.

This is a great opportunity to introduce families to many recreational outdoor activities, make new friends and learn something new that will last a lifetime. Early online registration is available at or on the day of the event from 8-10 a.m. Contact event coordinator Gary Wade at 651-769-4028 or for more information or to volunteer.
