The Nature Conservancy and the Cannon River Watershed Partnership announced an upcoming field day 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 17, at the property of Phil Maring, 40764 County 14 Blvd., Kenyon. The Little Cannon River runs through the length of this property, located south of Cannon Falls. Its landowners have improved buffers along the stream and have been using managed grazing in a circular corral for cattle management. A spring-fed pond in the pasture includes a designed cattle drinking area. The property also includes plots of pollinator habitat behind a neighboring vineyard and beehives in the pasture area. Forest management has included a recent walnut tree harvest.

The field day will also include a brief presentation on local ecology and resources available to landowners for forest management, given by experts from the Nature Conservancy, CRWP, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources or local forestry professionals.
