Lake Elmo Park Reserve is hosting a star watch party with Mike Lynch from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30.
Participants will use giant telescopes aimed at Jupiter and Saturn, star clusters, galaxies and more. Constellations such as The Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse will be observed as well as listening to some of the stories behind them.
The telescopes, including two 20-inch reflectors, are among the biggest mobile telescopes in Minnesota. Visitors will use a new astronomical camera-telescope system for views of the more distant parts of the universe. Guests receive user-friendly star maps and constellation charts for personal use.
Mike Lynch, a meteorologist at WCCO Radio, has been hosting star watch parties and teaching astronomy classes for more than 40 years.
Attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and bug spray. The program is free with a vehicle park pass — $7 daily or $30 annually. No registration required.
