The Wildcat girls' soccer team's quest to return to the WIAA State Tournament will begin Tuesday, May 28, when the Cat's open Division 2 regional play as the top seed in their eight-team bracket.

The Wildcats, 9-5-3 overall, 7-3-2 in the Big Rivers Conference following a 1-1 tie against Rice Lake and a 5-3 loss to Eau Claire Memorial last week, will host No. 8 seed La Crosse Logan (1-13-1) in a first round regional match Tuesday, May 28, at 5 p.m. at UW-River Falls' David Smith Stadium. A win Tuesday would keep them home against either No. 4 Holmen (10-8-3) or No. 5 La Crosse Central (8-5-2) for the regional final Saturday, June 1.

The other side of the bracket features No. 2 seed Onalaska (13-2-3) hosting No. 7 Sparta (6-12-2) and No. 3 New Richmond (11-2-2) facing No. 6 Menomonie (4-10-0).

The Cats have fared well against their sectional opponents during the regular season. They defeated Onalaska 2-1 and swept Menomonie by identical 6-1 scores while playing New Richmond to a 2-2 tie.

Before opening postseason play, the Cats will wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games, at Chippewa Falls Tuesday, May 21, and at Superior Thursday, May 23.

The sectional semifinal is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, at the home of the highest remaining seed with the sectional final Saturday, June 8, in New Richmond. The WIAA State Tournament will be played June 13-15 in Milwaukee.
