You can't win a conference championship without a bunch of talented players, and the Big Rivers Conference champion Raider girls' soccer team exemplifies that by having 10 players named to 2019 All-BRC teams, including both the offensive and defensive players of the year.
Sophomore Stella Duffee was named the BRC Offensive Player of the Year and senior Annika Lewis earned Defensive Co-Player of the Year honors and were joined on the first team by senior midfielder Camryn Masini and junior forward Sydney Spencer.
It's the first postseason honor for Duffee, who scored 13 goals and dished out 12 assists this season, while Lewis was honored for the third straight season after being named to the All-BRC First Team in 2017 and the second team last year.
Masini is also a three-time All-BRC pick and a repeat selection to the first team while Spencer, who led the BRC with 22 goals this year, was honored for the first time.
The Raiders also had four players named to the All-BRC Second Team-- senior captain Marly Johnston, junior forward Liz Collinson, junior midfielder Ella Young and senior goalkeeper Mykena Olsen.
Johnston, who anchored the Raider defense at center back, earned second team honors after being named to the first team the previous two seasons while Collinson, who totalled 10 goals and six assists this year, was an honorable mention pick a year ago. Young is a tireless midfielder who scored several big goals this season while Olsen registered 11 shutouts in conference play.
Senior defender Madison Danielson and senior captain and midfielder Carley Tewinkel each received honorable mention to the 2019 All-BRC team. Danielson, who had eight assists from her defensive position, was a second team pick a year ago while its the first postseason honor for Tewinkel.
The Raiders posted a perfect 13-0 record in BRC play this season to win their first conference title since 2002. They finished 19-3 overall.
