The Raider softball team swept Menomonie in a Big Rivers Conference doubleheader Thursday, April 25, before seeing its six-game winning streak come to an and with a 4-1 loss to Superior the following day at Grandview Park.
The Raiders swept the Mustangs 12-0 and 5-2 Thursday at home thanks to a complete-game one-hitter by Sydney Gabriel in the opener and a two-RBI game from Avery Johnson in the nightcap. The sweep kept the Raiders undefeated in BRC play at 6-0
Gabriel struck out 11 and walked just two in the first game while Johnson had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Gabriel, Hannah Stich, Emily Juza and Gabby Sommers all doubled in the win with Juza, Paige Meyer and Ellie Yaeger driving in two runs each.
Johnson's two-run single during a five-run fifth inning proved to be the difference in Hudson's 5-2 victory. Meyer, Stich and Johnson also singled in a run apiece in the inning to give Hudson a 5-1 lead at the time.
Stich went the distance in the circle to earn the pitching victory, allowing two unearned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
The Raiders managed just one run Friday against Superior, a lead-off homer by Meyer in the bottom of the seventh, as the Spartans snapped Hudson's six-game winning streak by a score of 4-1.
Stich and Grace O'Brien had the only other Raider hits in the game, both singles, while O'Brien took the loss in the circle.
Hudson, now 7-2 overall, was scheduled to host Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday, April 30, before hosting a BRC doubleheader against Rice Lake Thursday, May 2 beginning at 4 p.m. at Grandview Park.
