Rosemount boys' swimming and diving tallied a win and a tie two weeks ago as they approach the end of their regular season and head into sections. The Irish beat Prior Lake 94-92 on Friday, Jan. 11, and then tied the Lakeville South Cougars with 93 apiece on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Results for their last home meet on Jan. 22 against Shakopee were not yet available at the time of writing. The Irish end their regular season with a meet at Burnsville on Friday, Feb. 1, travel to Apple Valley on Feb. 5 and then compete in a diving invitational on Feb. 16.

Prior Lake

Rosemount won just four events as they hosted the Lakers, but were able to make up those points in the lower placements to edge out Prior Lake 94-92. The winners were the 200 yard medley relay team of senior Owen Benson, junior Devin Anderson, junior Brogan O'Donnel and senior Raphael Popa with a time of 1 minute, 45.28 seconds; junior Jonny Wise took first in the 50 freestyle in 23.85, Anderson was first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.45 and senior Cody Spaeth in the 100 freestyle (50.70).

Runners-up were Spaeth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.64, junior Keegan Henning in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.76 and senior Brady Carrigan in the one-meter dive with a score of 203.40. Senior Jett Horecka took second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.22, Henning was the runner-up in the 500 freestyle in 4:56.14 and so was the 200 freestyle relay team of Anderson, Wise, Spaeth and junior Cole Forgey (1:34.56). Benson was the runner-up in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.03, O'Donnel took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.06 and also in second was the 400 freestyle relay team of Popa, Wise, Spaeth and Henning (3:24.53).

Taking third were O'Donnel in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.18, Benson in the 100 butterfly in 59.33 and freshman Evan Kindseth in the 500 freestyle (5:05.08). The 200 freestyle relay team of junior Cameron Schulz, Kindseth, Henning and senior Caleb Ockwig took third with a time of 1:39.33, Anderson in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.43 and senior Nate Boerboom in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.20). Finally, the 400 freestyle relay team of Forgey, Boerboom, Kindseth and O'Donnel took third with a time of 3:34.26.

Lakeville South

The Irish and Cougars had a rare tie on Tuesday, Jan. 22, with both teams finishing with 93 points. Rosemount won seven out of 12 events, including all three relays. The 200 medley relay team of Benson, Anderson, O'Donnel and Popa took first with a time of 1:46.15; the 200 freestyle relay team of Anderson, Popa, Wise and Spaeth won in 1:34.07; and the 400 freestyle relay team of Wise, O'Donnel, Spaeth and Henning finished the relay sweep (3:29.69).

The other winners were Spaeth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.02, Henning in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.11 and Benson in the 100 backstroke (1:00.40). O'Donnel took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.90.

Taking second were O'Donnel in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.53, Carrigan in the one-meter dive with a score of 197.50 and Anderson in the 100 butterfly (55.99). Wise was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.52 and Kindseth in the 500 freestyle in 4:58.01.

In third were Henning in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.42, Kindseth in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.65 and Forgey in the 50 freestyle (24.18). Junior Luke Rexing took third in the one-meter dive with a score of 167.10 and the 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Josh Cobian, Benson, Kindseth and Boerboom in 3:36.52.
