The Red Wing boys' swimming and diving team took eighth place in the Big Nine swim meet over the weekend. The Wingers finished with 105 points, ahead of ninth-place Faribault and behind seventh-place Rochester John Marshall.
"Overall our team scored higher in the rankings than last year," said Red Wing head coach Mikayla Beuch, "and our return swimmers are swimming comparatively faster than what they put out last year this time. So, as a whole, our team is showing improvement and team depth growth. We have struggled in the past with having depth to our team and it hits us hard at our bigger meets in the season but our training is where we want it to be."
The team of Ian Johnson, Nick Bayley, Abe De Jong and Jayden Jech came in fifth place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 46.08 seconds. The same relay group took seventh in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.66. Johnson took fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.44. De Jong came in sixth in the 1 meter dive.
The Wingers will have some time off before the Section 1A meet begins Wednesday, Feb. 20. That tournament will run through Friday, Feb. 22, at the Rochester Recreation Center.
