The Hastings Raiders boys' tennis team was able to pack three matches into two days before the snow started last Wednesday, They played back-to-back matches against Apple Valley and Lakeville North at home on Monday, April 8. On Tuesday they also hosted Henry Sibley for their first Metro East Conference match of the spring.

Apple Valley

It was a clean, 7-0 sweep for Hastings against Apple Valley. Junior Colby Zak took No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0 and fellow senior Carson Konrady won No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1. Senior Matt Schlottman prevailed in No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0 and senior James Scharr completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 No. 4 win.

Seniors Eric Howd and Brian Nielsen won No. 1 doubles 6-4, 6-0. Junior Ben Ascheman and sophomore Charlie Scharr took a tight No. 2 doubles match 6-0, 2-6, 8-6 and freshman Brady Zak and junior Brayden Nelson prevailed in No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-2.

Lakeville North

The Raiders fell to the Panthers 5-2 with wins from Konrady at No. 2 singles and Schlottman and Howd at No. 1 doubles. Colby Zak fell at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 while Konrady won 6-1, 6-1. James Scharr lost at No. 3 singles 5-7, 7-5, 9-11 and Charlie Scharr was beaten at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2.

Schlottman and Howd won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Ascheman and Nielsen fell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles and Nelson and junior Michael Wester lost at No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-4.

Henry Sibley

Last Tuesday, April 9, Hastings hosted Henry Sibley and beat the Warriors 6-1.

Colby Zak lost in No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 but Konrady took No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-3. Schlottman won No. 3 singles in a hard-fought match 7-6(5), 7-5 and James Scharr breezed through No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-0.

The Raiders swept the doubles with Nielsen and Howd taking No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-2 and Ascheman and Charlie Scharr won No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-0. Nelson and Brady Zak won at No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-3.

Hastings rescheduled a match against Roseville from Wednesday to April 22, and its Thursday match at St. Thomas Academy to April 29. Saturday's match at Eagan was cancelled. Still on as of Friday is their Tuesday, April 16, match at home against Mahtomedi and Thursday's match at Simley.
