The Rosemount Irish boys' tennis team played six matches in six days in what was the final week of their regular season before section playoffs. The Irish have had some rough stretches this season as they are a young team with just two seniors and four juniors. They dropped four matches during the week against Eagan, Lakeville South, Hastings and Woodbury and then hosted Stillwater and St. Thomas Academy in a round-robin on Saturday, May 11, in which they lost two close matches as well.

On Monday, May 6, they lost to the Eagan Wildcats 5-2. The Irish winners were No. 1 doubles team made up of senior Tyler Frey and sophomore Jacob Otness 7-5, 6-1 and then the No. 3 doubles team of junior RJ McCullum and freshman Jonah Bergstrom 6-3, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles team of freshman Anders Otness and junior Ethan Welshons fell 6-1, 6-2. For singles, junior Aashish Bharath lost 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 2 singles sophomore Austin Johnson fell 6-0, 6-1. Senior Unnath Salagram lost No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1 and sophomore Jonathan Cavalli fell at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1 as well.

The next day the Irish faced off against the Lakeville South Cougars and lost 7-0. Bharath lost No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1; Johnson fell in No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3; Salagram was defeated at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Anders Otness lost No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Frey and Jacob Otness lost No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-1; Cavalli and sophomore Matt Mracek fell in No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-2 and then Welshons and McCullum lost No. 3 doubles 6-3, 6-1.

Rosemount finished a match against Hastings on Thursday, May 9, that had been interrupted by rain and ended up losing 5-2. Their two wins came from Bharath at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Johnson at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3. Mracek lost at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1, and so did Cavalli at No. 4 singles 6-0. 6-1. Frey and Salagram had a tight No. 1 doubles match but lost 6-4, 7-6 and Jacob Otness and Bergstrom fell at No. 2 doubles 6-4, 6-2. Welshons and Anders Otness lost No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-3.

On Friday the Irish fell in a tight match against Woodbury 4-3. Bharath and Johnson took No. 1 and 2 singles 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively. Salagram and Bergstrom lost No. 3 and 4 singles 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1. Welshons and McCullum won at No. 3 doubles 6-4, 7-5 while Jacob Otness and Frey lost No. 1 doubles 7-6, 6-3 and Mracek and Cavalli fell at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 7-5.

Rosemount hosted Stillwater and St. Thomas Academy on Saturday and lost both matches 4-3. They start Section 3AA team action this week but no schedule or bracket was available at the time of writing.
