The Hastings Raiders boys' and girls' track and field teams finished their regular season with a bang as both teams brought home the hardware as Metro East Conference champions. After some weather delays and having to run the 4x400 meter relay on Friday due to those delays, the result was never in doubt. Both teams combined to win nine events plus numerous top five finishes. Below are those who placed in the top-five of their events:
Senior Avonte Bailey finished third in the 200 with a time of 23.78 seconds, senior Josh Lewanski finished fourth in the 400 in 52.56, sophomore Isaac Huntington won the 800 with a time of 1:57.84 and fellow sophomore Jakub Youngstrom was fourth in 2:04.56. Senior David Nogle (4:30.87) and Youngstrom (4:32.34) finished back-to-back in second and third respectively in the 1,600, while it was a similar situation in the 3,200 as Nogle was fourth with a time of 10:04.63 and sophomore Jack Davison finished fifth (10:24.34).
The 4x200 relay took second with a time of 1:34.27, just a second behind Henry Sibley, and the Raiders won the 4x400 and 4x800 with times of 3:28.61 and 8:42.12 respectively. Junior Matt Myers took third in the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet, 6 inches (11-06), while seniors Jack Tousignant and Sawyer Levos finished first-second in the discus, with Tousignant throwing 139-07 and Levos 132-02. Tousignant also won the shot put with a throw of 47-8.50.
Senior Katie kuhn took fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:02.54, under two seconds behind fourth place. Freshman Linnea Urban won the 1,600 in 5:18.26 and finished second in the 3,200 with a time of 11:57.29. Senior Miranda Hanson was fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.76) and she won the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.97. Sophomore Rachel Hughes took fourth in 52.10.
Hastings placed fourth in the 4x100 (51.38), won the 4x200 in 1:47.21, was the runner-up in the 4x400 with a time of 4:11.23 and also took second in the 4x800 (10:12.71). Sophomore Reilly Johnson placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet and junior Hannah Peterson was fifth in the long jump with a jump of 15-01.
Hastings took three of the top five spots in the pole vault. Seniors Josie Pechous took second with a vault of nine feet flat, as did fellow senior Emily Weldon who took third and freshman Molly Vaughan who finished fourth. Junior jessica Davison took second with the discus with a throw of 117-08 and right behind her in third was senior Krystal Carlson with a throw of 113-02. Carlson also went on to win the shot put with a throw of 39-04.
Hastings will next compete at the section 1AA meet, held at Lakeville South High School on Thursday, May 31, and Saturday, June 2.
