The Hastings Raiders boys' and girls' track and field teams started their season Thursday night, March 28, when the hosted Red Wing and Park for indoor time trials at Hastings High School. While results were not officially kept, it offered the teams the opportunity to compete against others besides their own teammates and simulate a real meet.
Some events were omitted due to space concerns like the discus, long and triple jumps and full-length sprints. Instead, the sprinters made due with 50 meters or so, shot put took over half the gym inside of the track and they even found room to do some basic high-jumping.
Both teams are next in action on April 12 when they travel across the border to Hudson, Wis., for a meet at Hudson High School. After that meet, it's fast and furious through April and May for the Raiders until sections at the end of May at Lakeville South and then the state meet in June.
