The Zumbrota-Mazeppa wrestling team earn three wins in the Wabasso Duals on Saturday. The Cougars defeated Adrian Area 60-10, Minneota 36-31 and Red Rock Central 40-24.
Against Adrian Area, Michael Majerus (113 pounds), John Poulin (120), Ethan Kovars (160), Matt McKinney (195) and Trey Lexvold each won by pin for Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
Minneota won the first match, but Z-M countered with two match wins, which included a win by pin from Majerus (113). Minneota won the next three matches and Zumbrota-Mazeppa again answered with two wins by pin from Gabe Tupper (145) and Tanner Mancilman (152). The Cougars overtook Minneota with two wins in the final three matches, which included a win by pin from Jacob Bennett (220).
In its dual against Red Rock Central, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back with five straight match wins and seven wins in the first eight matches. Lucas Schiell started the dual with a win by pin for Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Majerus (120) and Mancilman (145) also won by pin.
Lake City earns top-5 finish in PEM Invitational
The Lake City wrestling team finished in fourth place in the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Invitational on Saturday.
Individual top-8 finishers include: Jonathan Harvey (106) in second, Mason West (113) in fifth, Nash Nelson (120) in sixth, Luke Skifton (126) second and Aaron Meincke sixth, Joe Kozlowski (138) in seventh, Jaden Rolbeicki (145) in seventh, Dominic Goihl-Krier (152) in fourth, Derek Meincke (160) in third, Thomas Frank (170) in fourth, Sam Nutt (182) in sixth, Max Below (195) in third and Ivan Vargas (220) in eighth.
Kenyon-Wanamingo places sixth in Rick Lee Duals
Kenyon-Wanamingo took sixth place in the two-day Rick Lee Duals.
On Saturday, the Knights defeated Pierz 46-21 and Brainerd 33-30, but lost to Bemidji 42-27.
Dillon Bartell (113) won by pin in all three of his matches, while Jesse Jackson (285), Tyler Ryan (170), Logan Meyers (160) each won by pin twice.
