The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers created this impoundment, known as Lake George, when it dammed the Eau Galle in the 1960s. Eau Galle's Master Plan states that Lake George has high phosphorus levels and the DNR has given it an "impaired water" status and algal blooms are common in the summer. According to Brad LaBadie, natural resources specialist, in 2016 Eau Galle Recreation Area had 4,986 campers and 44,716 users in the day area. LaBadie said they will be having a public meeting on April 26 at the Spring Valley Emergency Services Building at 6 p.m. for people to give their opinion on what they would like to see for the future of Eau Galle Recreation Area.
