Attorney Margaret Engebretson (D-Balsam Lake) is hoping to unseat U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Weston), who was elected to Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District in 2010.
U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) will face challenger Leah Vukmir (R-Brookfield) for the U.S. Senate seat.
Incumbent Attorney Gen. Brad Schimel (R-Waukesha) is being challenged by Democrat Josh Kaul, a Wisconsin native who served as a federal prosecutor in Baltimore before returning to Wisconsin.
Wisconsin's 30th State Assembly District is currently represented by Republican Rep. Shannon Zimmerman of River Falls. Democrat and and town of River Falls resident Barry Hammarback is the challenger on the ballot.
Normal operations resumed Oct. 26 at Prairie Island nuclear plant following a five-week refueling and maintenance outage that included replacing the plant's main generator. The replaced generator was original to plant when it opened more than 40 years ago, according to Xcel Energy. The refueling and maintenance work was completed by around 600 plant workers and 1,000 contractors.

HealthPartners will hold its annual Halloween candy trade-in Thursday Nov. 1 and Friday Nov. 2 at 31 locations in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Collected candy will be shipped to military service members in care packs along with handwritten notes by local children. The trade-in is put on by the HealthPartners PowerUp program designed to help families eat better and get active. Children donating candy will receive a PowerUp prize. More than 2,000 pounds of candy was collected in the area in 2017, HealthPartners says.
MADISON — Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Nicholas Edwards, 38, Brainerd, Minnesota, pled guilty and was sentenced Oct. 16 by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 27 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender. This prison term will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.

This column is specifically addressed to my dear Catholic sisters and brothers and all others who grapple with the issues of abortion, social programs and yes, economics. First, Catholics may be interested in knowing that I used natural family planning throughout my 45 years of marriage. I was successful in avoiding pregnancies when I needed to, and in achieving four pregnancies within 1-3 months of trying. Two of my tiny baby boys were born dead during my second trimester, so I know what it feels like to hold a small, not fully-formed, but precious dead baby.
